In October of 2016 as we prayed for a word for 2017, God gave us two statements that I knew were crucial for what he wanted to do: ALL IN | ALL NEW. February of that year, a prayer in the middle of a restaurant in Dallas, TX that someone dear to our family prayed, was a word over us that said it was time for “dreams to come alive once again.” In 2017 God opened amazing opportunities, closed out seasons at amazing places and we learned valuable lessons along the way. We experienced God’s goodness, faithfulness and provision like never before, and as Isaiah says it, He does NEW things and they shall spring forth rather quickly. The year 2017 will be remembered!
Looking back at my life, there have been many “watershed” moments that brought change, growth and pointed us to what God has in store for us. That prayer was a decisive moment for what was to come. What began as a word spoken over my life when I was 13 years old in a worship service is now becoming a reality in our lives.
We love Houston! With over 6.7 million people living in the surrounding areas and Houston being the most ethnically diverse city in the country, our heart is tied to the rich history, art, and culture that are found throughout the city. Google will be quick to also tell you statistics on poverty, sex trafficking, crime, addiction and many other factors affecting our city. Reading all these statistics breaks my heart but we believe that the local church is the hope of our city. Jesus is the answer to every problem and the light of the gospel can bring a change to every circumstance and situation.
That is why we have taken this step of faith and are planting a life-giving church in the Alief/Westchase area where virtually every culture of the modern world is represented and more than 80 languages and dialects are spoken. NOVA was birthed in my heart at 13 years old but became a reality around our dining table in a conversation. It was during this time that God began to challenge me to start dreaming GOD SIZED dreams once again and to trust Him in the process. It was actually in a dream where the name NOVA was revealed to me. God confirmed it several times that week to my wife and me. We believe that no matter what chapter of their story someone might be in, we want to guide them and help them see the NEW things God can do with and through them. Our vision is simple, we dream to see people seek God, connect with one another and always strive to inspire others with their lives.
While we feel this was a big decision, we are confident that through every experience and season, God was preparing us for this very moment. I know it will be hard, some things are uncertain and there will be much sacrifice to this calling but we are ready. We are ready for a move of God in our lives and this city. One thing is certain, our calling is loud, our vision is clear and our commitment is strong. As long as we have breath in our lungs, we will strive to make HIS name known in this city.
I ask that you please keep us in your prayers as we embark on this new journey!
